Things to Do at the Delaware Beaches
I’m so happy to share this post about the Delaware beaches. I am from Delaware, so I have a lot of fond memories going to these beaches in the summer months. The Delaware coastline is comprised of five beaches/beach towns, however I will only highlight my two favorite – Lewes, DE and Rehoboth, DE. Lewes and Rehoboth are located about 2 hours 15 minutes from Downtown DC (meaning they are closer than ocean city, MD and Virginia Beach, VA) and provide a relaxing beach experience.

LEWES, DE – My Favorite Beach Town
If you enjoy charming historic districts with your beach, Lewes is for you! Lewes is peaceful and quiet. It is the perfect place to take a beach walk, or a neighborhood walk. I will note that they have mostly sit-down restaurants, so when I go to this beach, I usually stop by Lewes is peaceful and quiet. I will note that they have mostly sit-down restaurants, so when I go to this beach, I usually stop by Grotto’s Pizza [Founded in Rehoboth and a local Favorite!] and order pizza to take with me to Lewes. Here are my top suggestions for Lewes, DE:
Take a walk on the beach
Visit the Lewes Canal Front Park [Here you can enjoy the beauty that come with docked boats and kids can play on the playground]
Walk in the Lewes Neighborhoods
Grab a drink at Nectar Juice Bar
Ride the Cape-May – Lewes Ferry
REHOBOTH, DE – Best Food and Attractions
If you like lots of food options and attractions, Rehoboth beach has got you covered. It has the most things to see of all the beaches. In addition to the beach, it has a long boardwalk filled with beach shops, restaurants, arcades, and rides. Here are my top suggestions for Rehoboth, DE:
Grab a bucket of fries at Thrashers [ Thrashers was founded in Ocean City, MD, but is still a Rehoboth staple!]
Try one of the 100+ ice cream flavors at The Ice Cream Store [ My personal favorite flavor is Booger - creamy cake batter ice cream dyed green with green colored caramel and yummy marshmallows within]
Shop around at Browse about Books
Catch music at the bandstand on summer Friday's, Saturdays, and Sunday's
OFF COASTAL HIGHWAY
Coastal highway leads you through all of the beaches. It is only natural that other things to do have popped up off of this highway. Here are my top suggestions of stops to make on Coastal Highway:
Go Kart race at Midway speed park
Shop Tax Free at the Tanger Outlets
Grab some tacos at Taco Reho
Do a wine tasting at Nassau Valley Vineyards
Dine at Friendly’s [This was my favorite restaurant growing up. This is a great place to dine if you have small children]
Often, I visit Lewes and Rehoboth on the same day. I spend the morning and afternoon in Lewes laying on the beach and strolling through the historic town. Then, I head over to the Rehoboth (maybe doing a little bit of shopping at the Tanger Outlets in between) to walk on the boardwalk, grab some treats and feel the night ocean breeze. I hope that you are soaking up summer wherever you may be!
If you have been to the Delaware Beaches, let me know which is your favorite!
